Leonard P. Ruiz Jr., Ph.D., is a senior biopharmaceutical executive with 28 years of extensive domestic and international experience and accomplishments in business development, technology transfer, strategic partnering, and equity financing.

As General Partner of the OMNI Capital Group, Inc. (Taiwan) and as President, COO, and a founding Director of Global Genomics Capital, Inc. (Los Angeles, CA) Dr. Ruiz has taken a leadership role in the development and financing of new startup companies. 

Dr. Ruiz has been a founder of several biotechnology companies including Algenix, Inc. where he served as President and Chief Executive Officer.  His position prior to Algenix was as President and Chief Executive Officer of the SOTA TEC Fund, a Minnesota based business development fund, focused on developing early stage companies. 

Prior to joining the SOTA TEC Fund, Dr. Ruiz was founder of several companies including Altra Bio, Inc., a biotechnology company where he served as Chief Executive Officer.  He was also founder of Galagen Inc., a publicly traded biotechnology company, where he served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer from its inception in 1992 to the formation of Altra Bio. 

He was founder of Procor Technologies Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Land O'Lakes, Inc., where he served as Vice President of Research and Development from its inception in 1987 to its merger with Galagen Inc. in 1992.  At that time, Dr. Ruiz was also Director of Research and Development for Land O'Lakes, Inc. where his responsibilities included management of technology and product development from inception through commercialization. Dr. Ruiz was also part of several projects in Pakistan sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Prior to his joining Land O'Lakes, Dr. Ruiz was employed on World Bank projects in Malaysia and was responsible for specific technology transfer initiatives. He has also served on the Board of a number of companies.  Dr. Ruiz received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Louisiana State University and has completed postgraduate studies in marketing, business development, and an abbreviated M.B.A. curriculum.
