BIOVIRx stock into this new foundation, therefore IMF is now solely
responsible for the development of RotaShield, and that development
will be strictly as a non-profit
In the United States, rotavirus gastroenteritis is a common cause
of hospitalizations (50,000 annually) and emergency room and outpatient
clinic visits (500,000 annually) and is responsible for an estimated
$264 million in direct medical costs and more than $1 billion in
indirect societal costs.
The global medical community has estimated the occurrence of 125
million cases of rotavirus each year in the developing countries.
Worldwide 600,000 infants and children die each year from rotavirus
infections, a disease that may be prevented with an efficacious
oral vaccine. This market is completely unserved.
